50 Years of Healing
June 10, 2008

June 10, 2008 was a full day of celebrations to commemorate Bridgehaven's 50th year of providing recovery, healing and social integration services for people with mental illness.

Joe Pantoliano At noon, Joe Pantoliano arrived at Bridgehaven for a special Bridge Builder lunch to learn more about our program. After meeting with members and staff over lunch, he then toured the premises, met more of the members and posed for photos.

In the evening, Bridgehaven hosted a VIP reception with Joe Pantoliano followed by a celebration dinner, at which Joe was the keynote speaker. Joe has recently become an advocate for the mentally ill, and has founded No Kidding, Me Too (www.nkm2.org) to broaden his efforts at stigma reduction, advocacy and education. During his speech, Joe shared his own experience of recognizing his clinical depression, receiving treatment and working to manage his disease while maintaining a successful acting career.

In addition to the VIP reception, a gallery was set up for Art As A Part Of Healing. Artwork by both members and staff art therapists was available for purchase. Local artists (some of whom have previously been Bridgehaven Artists in Residence for Art As A Part Of Healing) donated works of art that were raffled at the event.

The dinner at Mellwood Arts Center was attended by over 300 guests. Karen and Todd Blue were the honorary chairs of the Art & Soul event and we appreciate their leadership in making the event so successful. Wes Gersh, former Bridgehaven Board president (two times) served as the Event Committee Chair and was assisted by his steering committee members: his wife, Frann Gersh who secured the Mellwood Art Center, selected the dinner menu and created the table centerpieces; former Board member Pam Greer-Ullrich who chaired the subcommittee that secured sponsorships; Board member Carol Carrithers who assisted in generating terrific publicity about the event and Bridgehaven's Development Director, Donna Schuster who planned the program.

2008 Bridge Builder Lunches

In 2003 Bridgehaven put on our hard-hats and began a major construction project... Building a Bridge.

The Bridge that we are constructing is a Bridge to the Community.

We've been holding Bridge Builder Luncheons, inviting anyone interested in Bridgehaven to a one-hour luncheon, educating those in attendance about the wonderful work being done with the hundreds of persons in our community suffering from severe and persistent mental illness.

We'd like to invite you (and a friend!) to take one hour and learn about us. No one will ask for financial support, it is purely educational in nature.

Upcoming Bridge Builder Luncheons:

July 16
August 13 August 27
September 10 September 24
October 8 October 22
November 5 November 19

Simply call Donna at 502-585-9469 to make a reservation or e-mail her at dschuster@bridgehaven.org.
